The Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus will host “Comic Book Art from the Collection of Terry Godwin,” Nov. 2-Jan. 27
An opening reception is planned for 4-8 p.m. Nov. 2 in the Museum, with a collector’s talk at 6 p.m.
This exhibition of comic book art highlights original art work from the collection of Terry Godwin. The artworks include well known characters such as Tarzan, Batman, Spiderman, Flash Gordon, Green Lantern, The Hulk, Evangeline, Power Girl, Jack Dundee, Captain Britain, John Carter, Vampirella, along with other fictional heroes, villains, and Sci-Fi comic strip characters.
Artists of the works include Mehl Almeda, Mark Beachum, Rick Burchett, Karl Comendador, Reed Crandall, Mike Deodato Jr., Dave Dorman, George Evans, Frank Frazetta, Josh Gibson, Tomas Giorello, Frank Godwin, Mike Golden, Tom Grindberg, Paul Gulacy, Clark Hawbaker, J.G. Jones, Gil Kane, Greg Land, Rick Larson, Gray Morrow, Rudy Nebres, Alex Nino, Mark Schultz, Bart Sears, Steve Skeates, Jim Steranko, Bill Stout, Art Suydam, Mark Texeira, Ricardo Villagran, Bill Ward, Al Williamson, Wally Wood, George Woodbridge, Bernie Wrightson, David Yardin, and Thomas Yeates.
In connection with the exhibit, the Museum will host a Cape Mini-Comic Con Family Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 3. This free event includes vendors, game room, cosplay, artists’ displays, a youth comic character drawing contest and is being held in partnership with Cape Comic Con.
The Comic Character Drawing Contest is open to ages 5-15. Contest entry page pick-up and detail of rules is available Oct. 23-Nov. 2 on weekends 1-4 p.m. and Tues.-Fri. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Entry pages are due no later than Noon, Nov. 3. All original character entries will be displayed Nov. 3-Jan. 27 at Crisp Museum.
The Crisp Museum is located in the Cultural Arts Center at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus, located at 518 S. Fountain St. in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Friday, 1-4 p.m. on weekends and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the first Friday of the month. Closed for the holidays Nov. 22-25 and Dec. 22-Jan. 1, 2019.
