The Annual Juried Student Exhibition showcases the creative talents of the Department of Art students at Southeast.
The public is invited to attend an opening reception from 4-8 p.m. April 1. Merit awards and honorable mention awards will be presented in each of the following categories: Color Composition/Design Foundations, 3D, Drawing, Painting, Fibers, Graphic Design/Illustration, Digital Art, Printmaking, Ceramics and Sculpture. Best in Show and the Distinguished Merit Award also will be presented.
This is a significant show for Southeast students, showcasing selected works that have been created within the past year. Many of the works on view will be available for purchase.
This year’s juror is Ron Fondaw, professor of sculpture in the Department of Art at Washington University in St. Louis. Each year, the professional juror selected for the Student Exhibition exhibits a solo show of their own work in Southeast’s River Campus Art Gallery. Fondaw’s exhibit will be on display March 7-22. A lecture by Fondaw will be held Noon-1 p.m. March 23 .
Fondaw’s sculptural work examines cultural and personal perceptions about beauty and permanence. His intention is to evoke a poetic play between our bodies and the built environment.
