“Nathan Pierce: Transition Spaces 15.1” will be displayed beginning Sept. 1, 2015 in the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.

The public is invited to an opening reception from 4-8 p.m. Sept 4, with the artist’s talk at 6 p.m. The exhibit will be on display until Oct. 25. Admission is free.

Pierce is artistically led to construct pieces that convey his personal beliefs about communication and perception. Inspired by the fabrication process, his expertise in construction lends to his dedication to create form with structural steel, brick and other difficult materials.

“The examination into the roles we play and the quality of our own personal relationships is the intention of these forms,” Pierce said. “These devices may be tangible evidence of how communication succeeds or fails in our own lives and in the lives of others. It is difficult to discern whether they are from the future or the past.”

Pierce holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from Southeast Missouri State University. His work has been displayed in juried exhibitions and outdoor sculpture programs across the Midwest, including, The Chicago Sculpture Exhibit, SculptureWalk Sioux Falls, SPACES Sculpture Invitational in Huntsville, Alabama. Pierce was the recipient of the 2013 Lewis C. Weinberg Award at Skokie NorthShore Sculpture Park.
