This exhibit showcases 75 pieces by promising young artists in their junior and senior years of high school, in private and public schools in southeast Missouri and southern Illinois counties.
The public is invited to attend an Opening Reception for the artists on Sunday, Jan. 28, from 2-4 p.m. Forty-two awards will be presented at 3 p.m., including First, Second, and Third Places, along with Honorable Mentions, in the categories: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, fibers, and photography. The artist with the piece determined Best-of-Show will receive a $1,500 scholarship and the artist with the piece chosen Merit Award will receive a $1,000 scholarship, contingent upon his or her enrollment at Southeast Missouri State University as an art major.
This year's juror is Dr. Samuel Bishop, Professor of Art at Southeast Missouri State University. He is an alumnus of Southeast and received his Master of Art Education and Ph.D. from The University of Missouri-Columbia. He teaches Art History and Perspectives in Art at Southeast Missouri State Universtiy. (Click here to view an image of a list of selected pieces.)
