Reading Recovery® Sites

Reading Recovery

Reading Recovery® is a highly effective, short-term intervention of one-to-one tutoring for first graders having trouble learning to read and write. Individual students receive a half-hour lesson each school day for 12 to 20 weeks with a specially trained Reading Recovery® teacher. Nearly 80 percent of students who complete the full series of lessons can read and write within the average range of performance in their class.

The Southeast Missouri State University Reading Recovery Program:

  • Collaborates with school districts in all regions of Missouri.
  • Leads statewide efforts for positive systemic change in literacy education.
  • Conducts and coordinates current and follow-up research.
  • Proactively works toward the goals of appropriate strategic plans including those in force at the College, University, and national Reading Recovery® levels.

Group Component

Under the Missouri Statewide Early Literacy Intervention Program (MSELIP), the early literacy group component teaches trained Reading Recovery® teachers to work with groups of children. Additional courses are offered supporting classroom teachers and resource teachers building their skills in differentiated instruction in literacy, creating literacy supportive classrooms.
