Telecommunications mission is to provide communication support services to University customers through telephone service, voice mail, fiber optic cabling, local area network cabling, cable TV service, and cellular service in a prompt efficient manner.
Telecommunications owns and operates its own telephone switch. There are approximately 2400 students/faculty/staff users connected to this system.
Telecommunications maintains an operator switch board service for all calls to the main telephone number (573) 651-2000 or by individuals pressing zero if on-campus. University operators will not transfer calls to non-university locations.
Telecommunications is located in the lower level of the General Service 1 (GS-1) building, next to the Power Plant. Specific information concerning our services may be obtained by calling our office at ext. 2575 on campus or dialing (573) 651-2575 from off campus.
The Telecommunications Office and Switchboard are open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the Fall and Spring semesters. Summer hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
After-hours calls are referred to the Department of Public Safety at 651-2215 which is staffed 24 hours a day.
REMINDER: If anyone moves from one office to another, Telecommunications must be notified in order to allow University switchboard operators to accurately route calls.
Good telephone skills demonstrate your professionalism, how well managed your office is, your attitude toward students, parents, faculty and staff, as well as your attitude toward the University.
