Troubleshooting

If your web browser does not redirect you to the ResNet web page, follow these troubleshooting processes:

Follow each of the processes below until your Internet connection has been established:

Process 1: Registration page failure:

  1. If an error message displays, click in the address bar and type splat.semo.edu, press Enter. The web page may take a few moments to load, so be patient.
  2. If the ResNet Registration page is displayed, type in your SE Key and password, read the policies, then click the I Accept button at the bottom of the page.
  3. If your connection fails, follow process 2.

Process 2: Check LAN settings (for laptops):

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click on Tools > Internet Options.
  3. Click on the Connections tab.
  4. Click LAN Settings.
  5. Make sure that the only thing checked is the Automatically detect settings. Remove all other check marks and click OK.
  6. Type splat.semo.edu in the address bar, press Enter.
  7. If the ResNet Registration page is displayed, type in your SE Key and password, read the policies, then click the I Accept button at the bottom of the page.
  8. If connection fails, follow process 3.

Process 3: Check IP address (for laptops):

For Windows XP:

  1. Click Start.
  2. In Windows XP:
    1. Click Run.
    2. Type CMD.
    3. Click OK.
  3. In Windows Vista and Windows 7:
    1. Type CMD in the search box.
    2. Right click CMD in the search results and choose Run as administrator.
    3. If the User Account Control dialog appears, click continue or provide administrator credentials.
  4. In the black window, type "ipconfig" and press Enter.
  5. This will display your IP address. Your IP address should start with “150.201.x.x” (i.e. 150.201.54.100).
  6. If your IP address does not start with “150.201” you need to release and renew the IP address: type "ipconfig /release" and press Enter then type "ipconfig /renew" and press Enter.
  7. Verify that your IP address begins with “150.201.”
  8. Open Internet Explorer, type splat.semo.edu in the address bar, and press Enter.
  9. If the ResNet Registration page is displayed, type in your SE Key and password, read the policies, then click the I Accept button at the bottom of the page.
  10. If your connection fails, follow process 4.
