Email refers to the transmission and storage of messages using computers and telecommunications. Email can greatly improve office communications by providing an alternative to "telephone tag." In addition, electronic mail can eliminate many of the paper memos that are sent throughout the campus.

To locate email addresses for students, faculty, or staff, go to the campus directory and search using the person's name. Information regarding the status, telephone number, email, address, etc. will be displayed.

Electronic mail accounts are free to all Southeast Missouri State University students, faculty, and staff. When a new faculty/staff member is hired, they will receive an ID number from Human Resources. Then, the new faculty/staff member must call Information Technology at (573) 651-2217 to be assigned a Southeast Key. Most faculty/staff Southeast Keys consist of their first letter of their first name and full last name. If that Southeast Key is already taken, the faculty/staff member will have to add their middle initial or a number.

To activate the Southeast Key, the new faculty/staff member must go to https://app.semo.edu/sekey/SignIn.asp and enter their Southeast ID number and Pin number (birth day and last two digits of birth year. Ex: May 8, 1990 => 0890). The new faculty/staff member must wait until the morning after their Southeast Key is activated to access their Southeast email account.

Faculty and Staff can access their email through Outlook (which is installed on every office computer) or through a web browser at mail.semo.edu.
