Computer Recommendations
IT Consulting Services

Information Technology has recommended computer specifications for students that currently own a computer and or students that are planning to but a new computer.

If you plan to buy a new computer, we recommend that it meet or exceed the following criteria:

PC(Windows) Macintosh
Processor Intel Core i3, equivalent and/or faster Intel Core i3 or faster
Memory 8 GB RAM 4 GB RAM
Hard Drive 250+ GB 250+ GB
Operating System Windows 10 or newer OS X 10.11 El Capitan or higher

  • Microsoft Office 2016
  • Internet Explorer 11 or Higher
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader (latest)
  • Antivirus/Antimalware software with a current subscription

If you already have a computer that you are considering bringing to campus, we recommend that it meet or exceed the following minimum criteria:

Services available to students who choose to bring a computer:

  • Direct access to the campus network and Internet for all ResNet (Residential Network) users. Students must supply their own 10/100Base-T Ethernet network adapter and a CAT-5 Ethernet cable.
  • Wireless 802.11g access locations can be found here.
  • The University recommends Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows 7 operating systems, which is a free antivirus program that provides real-time protection for your PC, as well as guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. Windows Defender is included on Windows 8 and higher PCs.
