U.S. Language and Culture Program at Southeast Missouri State University

This course will help students in any academic field improve their English language and cross-cultural skills. Students will practice general English, visit historical places, and experience the sports, music, food, and culture of the U.S.

This course will help current and future teachers improve their English language communication and teaching skills. Students will observe expert teachers, conduct a teaching demonstration, and discuss topics including classroom management, educational technology, and strategies for teaching specific skills. This program is best suited for language teachers, but any education major may participate.

Specialized Programs

The Intensive English Program designs new programs to meet the needs of partners and groups.

Custom programs include:

  • Program length of 3-8 weeks with flexible dates
  • English language training focused on your goals and interests
  • Content focused on general U.S. culture or specific topics, such as Health Sciences, Engineering, Agriculture, TESOL, Leadership/Community Service, or Education
  • Cultural and recreational trips
  • Several housing options (may depend on availability)

Cape Girardeau, Missouri sits on the Mississippi River, the largest river in North America. We are a friendly and safe college town that offers a variety of shopping and dining options, museums, concerts, natural parks and cultural events.

Short term program students live in their choice of available on-campus, homestay family, or nearby hotel accommodations.

Activities and Excursions

Each short term program includes educational and recreational trips. Some examples include:

  • downtown Cape Girardeau and the Mississippi River
  • local businesses and professional experiences
  • St. Louis Gateway Arch and Cardinals baseball game
  • Memphis Beale Street, Sun Studio, and National Civil Rights Museum
