Dr. Theresa Haug-Belvin is an instructor and the course coordinator for the UI100: First-Year Seminar at Southeast Missouri State University. She is a native of Bonne Terre, Missouri and received both her bachelor of science degree in education and her masters degree in public administration from Southeast Missouri State University. She earned her Ed.D. from the University of Missouri – Columbia.

From 2001-2012, Dr. Haug-Belvin oversaw the orientation programs at Southeast where she worked with new first-year students, transfer students and their families. She was promoted to Director of Student Transitions in 2010 where she continued her orientation responsibilities and also assumed leadership of the Office of Career Linkages.

In the fall 2012, she accepted a faculty position to teach the First-Year Seminar. She also serves as the course coordinator for UI100 which includes chairing the UI100 Advisory Committee and being responsible for the UI100 curriculum, faculty training, themes for the course, student learning outcomes, and pedagogical issues as they relate to teaching the course. She is affiliated with the Department of History.

She has delivered presentations at national conferences on first-year experience issues including creating partnerships with the Registrar’s Office; working closely with academic librarians; incorporating leadership into a first-year seminar; and guiding orientation programs through a financial crisis.

In 2015, Dr. Haug-Belvin was awarded The Dr. R. Ferrell Ervin Award for Excellence in Teaching by the Student Government Association. In her free time, she loves to read, practice yoga and spend time with her family. She lives in Cape Girardeau with her husband, Paul, who also works at Southeast. They have one son, Isaac, who is in elementary school and two dogs named Avery and Paco.
