Johnson Faculty Center Committee
Year-End Report

The Johnson Faculty Committee met once during the 2012-13 AY. Subsequently, we discussed several items via email that were established at the December 14, 2012 meeting.

We proposed three items:

  1. The creation of a Faculty Social Hour
  2. An increase in the rental rate for the suites in the JFC from $20 to $30 per night
  3. Purchases and processes necessary for the upkeep of the suites

The Social Hour was implemented and the first was held on February22. The rationale was that the Centre should be a site where faculty could interact in a collegial, social atmosphere. There were approximately 40-50 faculty members in attendance. The hospitality management students, under the guidance of Chef Lisa Essmyer, prepared the food. A second will be held on April 26. We hope this will continue in the 2013-14 AY.

The increase in the rental rate was proposed via a proposal to VP of Finance and Administration Kathy Mangels. The rationale for the increase is to make much needed repairs to the Centre. At this point, we have received no official word. However, I feel quite confident this new rate will be implemented starting July 1, 2013.

Finally, the committee agreed to the purchase of necessary items to keep the suites in excellent condition for the renters of the suites. We made several purchases such as linens, pillows, etc. that were needed. We also passed several duties regarding the suites back to the Faculty Senate office administrator, Ashley Harrington. She is now responsible for signing guests out, if necessary, and dealing with issues that occur during her 8:00-5:00 workday. We also made sure that Wi-Fi passcodes are available to the guests who stay in the Centre.
