Regents Consider Dean and Associate Dean Appointments

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., July 1, 2011 -- The Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents on Wednesday reviewed results of the periodic review process of all University deans and associate deans and voted for continuance or discontinuance of their administrative assignments based on the evaluations.

The evaluations were conducted during the Spring 2011 semester in accordance with the process outlined in the University’s Faculty Handbook. 

After review of the materials, the Board voted to continue the appointment of five of the six deans for a period of five years and to continue the appointment of the three associate deans for a period of three years.  The sixth dean will be assuming a new role and assignment.

The six deans evaluated included:  Dr. Gerald McDougall, dean of the Harrison College of Business; Dr. Margaret Noe, dean of the College of Education; Dr. Loretta Prater, dean of the College of Health and Human Services; Dr. Francisco Barrios, dean of the College of Liberal Arts; Dr. Randall Shaw, dean of the School of Polytechnic Studies; and Dr. Chris McGowan, dean of the College of Science and Mathematics.

The three associate deans evaluated were:  Dr. Gary Johnson, associate dean of the Harrison College of Business; Dr. Michael Parker, associate dean of the College of Health and Human Services; and Dr. Jai Dahiya, associate dean of the College of Science and Mathematics.

Dr. Noe will assume a new role for the University in her capacity as a tenured full-time faculty member.  Effective today, July 1, the interim dean of the College of Education is Dr. Tamela Randolph (formerly Tamela Hanebrink).  The interim chair of the Department of Elementary, Early and Special Education is Dr. Julie Ray. The University will conduct a nationwide search for a new dean.

In other personnel actions, the Board:

 Approved the extension of the contract for Legislative Consulting Services with Patek & Associates, LLC, of Jefferson City to provide state legislative consulting services for a period of one year (Sept. 1, 2011 to Aug. 31, 2012) at the rate of $63,648; and

 Approved the extension of the original contract with Dr. Dale F. Nitzschke, former Southeast president, as the University’s Federal Legislative Consultant for a period of one year (July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012) at the annual rate of $95,000.
