Block I is the only block in which students who have not passed into teacher candidacy may register. Block I is designed to be taken simultaneously with EL 274 Diversity in American Schools and provides students with an introduction to the art and science of teaching as well as to multicultural perspectives on education through EL 274. Our freshmen are introduced to the profession through field-based observation (24 hours) and information about development and professional educational organizations. Its primary objective is to introduce students to the nature of learners, differences in teaching styles, and the differing content of instruction. Students are then in a position to make informed decisions regarding their future in the profession.
