Accrediting Bodies

National and international organizations often facilitate the review and accreditation of programs related to their fields. In educator preparation, some entities accredit focused programs like music and counseling. The following programs are currently accredited by one of these institutions.

  • Instrumental Music Education and Vocal Music Education: National Association of Schools of Music (NASM)
  • School Counseling: Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)
  • Other organizations accredit professional programs more broadly. The Southeast Missouri State Educator Preparation Program currently accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). In the fall of 2018 a team of reviewers from the Council for the Accreditation Educator Preparation (CAEP) visited campus, and Southeast will receive a final accreditation decision from CAEP in the spring of 2019. The self-study that was submitted as a part of this process can be found here.

U.S. Department of Education (DOE)

Through the Title II reporting process, the DOE collects data on EPPs annually. Data on Southeast’s programs can be found by following the links below.

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)

Annually, DESE publishes Annual Performance Reports (APR) on each EPP. The data included in these reports are used by the state to determine an EPP’s eligibility to continue recommending graduates for certification in specific areas. The most recent version of Southeast’s APR can be found here.
