Rubén Gerding, a native of Kentucky, received his early training from the Louisville Ballet. He received his MFA in Classical & Contemporary Dance from Texas Christian University and his BFA in Ballet Performance from the University of Oklahoma.
Rubén danced for three seasons with the Eugene Ballet under director Toni Pimble. While there, he originated the role of “Aramis” in Pimble’s The Three Musketeers and was featured in the “Winter” section of Paul Vasterling’s The Seasons. He danced for four years under director Ben Stevenson at Texas Ballet Theater. Among the many classical and contemporary roles he performed with Texas Ballet Theater, he enjoyed the opportunity to dance Stevenson’s Five Poems and Mozart: Requiem, an original piece created on the male dancers of the company. Rubén danced with Metropolitan Classical Ballet in Arlington, TX, under the direction of Paul Mejia and Alexander Vetrov. He performed such works as Balanchine’s Donizetti Variations, Mejia’s Violin Concerto and Carmen by Alberto Alonso. He also danced in Casa Manaña musical theatre productions Damn Yankees and Beauty and the Beast and performed with the Bruce Wood Dance Project, Avant Chamber Ballet, Ballet Concerto, and other North Texas dance companies.
Gerding has choreographed for universities in North Texas and regional ballet schools associated with Regional Dance America: Southwest. His work Crossed, Shaded, and Thrown Wide Apart was presented as an adjudicated work at the American College Dance Association: South Central and at the annual Chi Tau Epsilon Honor Society AIDS Outreach Benefit Concert in Fort Worth. He performed his own work Hungarian Dance for Two with fellow dancer Lea Zablocki at the Plano Dance Festival in Plano, TX.
Rubén taught Advanced Ballet at Booker T. High School for the Performing and Visuals Arts in Dallas, TX. He has been faculty for the University of Oklahoma Summerwind Youth Ballet and the Southwest Committee of the Cecchetti Council of America. In 2010, Gerding received his certification in Pilates though the Physical Mind Institute and taught Pilates professionally in numerous studios in the North Texas area before joining Southeast Missouri State University.
Rubén is an active member of CORPS de Ballet International and sits on the FurtherDance Fort Worth Board, a community organization for dance artists to come together to further dance education in Fort Worth, TX.
