3D Monster Mash-up

Ghouls and goblins unite! In this creepy-crawly camp, you will learn how to create a 3D monster model to 3D print and how to use Adobe Photoshop to bring it to life. You are in for an eerie exercise in 3D rendering, printing, and character design. At the end of the week, you will take home your very own 3D printed monster and a trading card documenting its special powers.

Advanced Robotics

Want to take your LEGO™ skills to the next level? Join us for the advanced class of Robots Rock! Students will use a LEGO™ Mindstorms kit to build and program their own robot designs. We’ll throw the instruction book away and see who can design, build, and program the fastest, the strongest, or even the smartest robot!

American Girl

Calling all American girls! Bring your American Girl doll and create exciting accessories for both of you! Learn to make jewelry, duct tape sandals, a tie-on tutu, hair accessories and fun props like a lemonade stand for your doll! Create a special scrapbook for your favorite selfies. We will even set up a fun photo booth!

Ancestor Detective: Discovering Your Past

Discover your family roots through family stories, photos, and keepsakes. Put together a fun workbook to share with loved ones. Learn how to share your family stories in your own words, interview family members and discover your own culture.

Animation Adventure Camp

Why go to the movies this summer when you can learn to make your own? Learn the ins and outs of directing and filming a stopmotion animation as you create your very own movie. Campers will be introduced to techniques in storytelling, set design, sound editing and more! At the end of the week, you take home a stopmotion animated short film to share with family and friends.

Around the World in 5 Days: The Story of Mathematics

All aboard for an interdisciplinary adventure around the world! Campers will learn the history of mathematics from five ancient cultures: Babylonian, Egyptian, Roman, Mayan, and Chinese. Each day you will “discover” a new numeration system. Learn the ancient symbols used to represent numbers and become a sleuth who solves problems “encoded” in each ancient culture. The fun doesn’t stop there! You will make a pyramid, create Babylonian art discover just what makes each culture so unique.

Artclipse - Celebrating the Eclipse!

Are you ready for an out-of-this-world camp experience? Let the sun, moon, and stars ignite your creativity when we explore drawing, painting, and sculpture. Create images using solar energy as we experiment with sun prints. Draw and paint your sign of the Zodiac. Make a glass mosaic solar lantern to enjoy in the moonlight. Form a sun or moon face in Papier-mâché and spring into orbit while crafting objects for a mobile representing the planets in the orbit of our sun!

Back to the Future

Take a stellar journey to the beginning of time and then voyage back to the future, uncovering all kinds of cool things along the way! How did our solar system come to be? Hold on as we travel through space and see what makes each planet unique. Once back to earth we will dig deep into the layers of the earth, explore different terrains, and begin our own excavation in search of fossils. Then it’s off to the Gold Rush says to pan for real gems, like pyrite, amethyst, quartz and more. Students will get to take home their own pair of eclipse sunglasses, gemstones, fossils, and more!

Be a Designer!!!

Find It and Flip It! Create fashionable décor, clothing and accessories for artistic exploration this summer! (Give your room a new, unique spirit with wild art and craft techniques, learn to paint on fabric and embellish furniture surfaces, re-design your shoes or boots and make amazing jewelry for yourself or for your friends!) Everyday objects and flea market finds will be your starting point as you use common materials to transform these articles into oneof- a-kind masterpieces! You will bring some things from home to transform!

Beginner Bots

Calling all LEGO™ maniacs! Join us for the beginner’s class of Robots Rock! Students will use a LEGO™ Mindstorms kit to build and program 4 different contraptions, including a robo-kid and his robo-puppy, a conveyor belt and the claw. Students will build these robots using step-by-step instructions and pre-made programs.

CSI - Monsters

Bigfoot, Sea Serpents, UFOs, ghosts, ESP – fun to imagine, but what does science say? Once upon a time , the giant squid, great ape, hippos and even meteors were thought to be mythical. Astronomy and chemistry began as astrology and alchemy. What about today’s mysteries? Students will apply scientific methods to unexplained phenomena to develop critical thinking skills. Create your own hoaxed photos and false footprints….

CSI- Southeast

Are you obsessed with shows like CSI? Come learn the “tricks of the trade” including: fingerprinting, blood testing, DNA extraction, evidence collection and more! You will even meet real CSI, tour a working crime lab and investigate your very own “mock” crime scene. Campers leave as certified “Southeast CSI.”

Clay-tastic!

We will be creating all kinds of things out of clay! Children will hand build simple vessels such as bowls and cups, in addition to sculptural creations such as animals and people. Projects will be fired and glazed in class, but will need to be picked up by parents at a later date TBD.

Creative Coding

Collaborate with other campers as you design and build amazing projects using a variety of visual programming languages. Create interactive greetings, experiment with sounds and musical notes, design characters and animate them, build level-based games, and more in this hands-on creative camp.

Dino Dig

What’s it like to be a paleontologist? Grab your shovels as we plan our own dinosaur excavation. We will do crafts and play fun games as we learn what dinosaurs ate, where they hung out, and what they did back in the Jurassic period. How big were they? What were all those spikes, scales, and beaks for? Many discoveries will be made as we hunt for dinosaur eggs and chip away at fossils. Parents are invited on a Friday field trip to the Bollinger County Museum, where kids will see real dinosaur bones and learn more about these amazing creatures.

Electricity in a Snap!

This camp is so fun it’s shocking! Campers will be introduced to electricity and electronics using easy to work with circuits that snap together like Legos. Using these kits, we’ll build things like fans, voice recorders, radios, sirens, and sound detectors.

Epic Pottery

We will be learning how to use the pottery wheel to create pottery such as bowls, cups, and small vases. Elements of hand building with clay will be introduced as well to create unique pottery vessels. Projects will be fired and glazed in class but will need to be picked up by parents at a later date TBD.

Globetrotters

Pack your imaginary bags and get ready to travel around the world as we learn about various countries and their cultures. Our explorers will learn about geographical features, languages, and native people. Playing games, sampling foods, creating artwork, and listening to music will allow travelers to experience the culture of each country. Boring campers need not apply to this globetrotting adventure!

Haunted Historians

Do dead men tell tales? Find out in this creepy camp by working hands-on with local historians. Explore (through activities, crafts, and trips) the sources used by historians to bring the dead back to life. Think history is boring? Then you’ve never examined bones, dug for buried treasure or listened to the voices echoing down the hallway of an old house. Come with us for a historical adventure that will change how you view the past.

Horizons Camp Z (ALL DAY CAMP)

Become a zombie or a member of Horizons Zombie Patrol! This week-long camp provides campers opportunities to learn objective planning, basic first aid/light search and rescue skills, survival skills, leadership skills and so much more. The fun will accelerate by learning theatrical skills such as acting, zombie make-up, and improvisation.

Itch for Computers?

Do you have the itch to be a computer programmer? Scratch it with Scratch software. During this introduction to programming you write programs to animate characters, play games, and tell stories. Because Scratch is internet-based, campers can continue playing with the software at home! Register today this one will fill quickly!

Jr. CEO

What do you want to be when you grow up? If you dream of being your own boss or a self-made millionaire, this camp is for you! In Jr. CEO you will create a product idea and learn what it takes to start your own business. Junior CEOs will use their business ideas to learn skills like problem solving, negotiation, teamwork, and how to be a boss. Junior CEOs will also get the chance to meet successful business owners, explore a local business to see just what it is like, and even present their business plan during a luncheon on the final day! Grab your ideas and get ready – there is never a dull moment when you are the boss!

Junior “Mediarologist”

Want to be the official weather watcher for your family? Join local weather celebrity Bob Clubbs and learn all you need to know about the basics of weather! You will also learn all of the best resources for tracking the weather online and with apps. You’ll be a certified “Junior Social Mediarologist” and soon be watching the weather so your family doesn’t have to.

Kids In the Kitchen

Our mini chefs will get a crash course in nutrition and culinary skills by exploring the five food groups. Activities will include preparing kid-friendly snacks and entrees with healthy ingredients, all while learning the nutritional benefits of each recipe. Come and learn about food and nutrition from two Registered Dietitians! Course fees include the cost of food and apron.

YES! We will pay homage to the movie AND the temperature, right in the middle of the hot weather! Snowflakes, glitter, and a silly snowman will delight the FROZEN enthusiasts! Painting with ice cubes and paint-sicles, making some princess bling, games and some singing will ABSOLUTELY be involved in this art celebration! We are planning some surprises!

Become an entrepreneur and create your own fashion line for sale! Learn the ins and outs of fashion line development while honing specific fashion skills! Master the art of sewing, fabric selection, design inspiration, and more while producing your own fashion line! Then dive into the world of merchandising with Catapult: Creative House where you will work with your very own sales representative! Together you’ll explore merchandising your line. Then you’ll actually sell your creations during your very own market debut within the Catapult retail space! Sewing machines and supplies are provided, so come launch your line with Catapult: Creative House!

Magic and Muggles: Fun with Harry Potter

Create potions, your own wand, share stories of magic, get placed into your house by the Sorting Hat, create your own magical animal, participate in the Goblet of Fire competition and discover your way through corridors of magic with a special map and so much more.

Magical Fiction

Do you enjoy using your imagination? Writers create magic with their words and shape worlds with their imagination. Sound fun? Let’s take your creativity and turn your ideas into a fun book to show off! Create your own poems, short story or mini graphic novel. In this camp everyone is a wizard, casting spells with words and creating a small book (called a chapbook) to take home at the end of the week.

Making Things with Chemistry

How’d they make that? In this class, you just might find out! Use chemistry to manufacture products used in everyday living (with emphasis on forensic, environmental, health, home, and industrial applications). You can take many of these products - mirrors, inks, plastics, fragrances, paints and toys - home and use them when the class ends! We will even hold a chemists competition to see who can create the best new products! No previous chemistry is required for this laboratory-based class; however, campers must be committed to carefully following instructions.

Meet the Penguins!!!

Come waddle around with everyone’s favorite tuxedo-clad bird! Learn about the habitats, adaptations and the amazing artistic abilities of penguins! Everyone will leave with penguin art and a week’s worth of penguin fun! Special Highlights include a penguin presentation by a local biologist, penguin Art, “Happy Feet” special showing, penguin scavenger hunt, penguin crafts and much more!

Myth Busters

Mad Scientists! Grab your lab coat and journal and be ready for some fun and interactive science experiments. Our campers will create and explore through safe, interactive science experiments using everyday household items that we supply in daily “lab kits.” With a focus on proving or debunking common myths, our scientists will test their hypotheses, use creativity and problem-solving skills, log their findings, and have fun with new friends!

No Strings Attached: Beginning Puppetry

Imagine creating a character of your own design and bringing the character to life before friends and family. In this class, we will learn puppet history, design, and performance. Through exploration of the puppet world, students will discover the many types of puppets and techniques: shadow, finger, sock, cloth, full body/professional. Students will then design and bring to life their own puppets to take home. Throughout the week, we will work on a unique puppet show to perform for friends and family on the last day.

Once Upon a Time... Storytelling with Clay

Participants will create a story with clay, paper, and paint. This class will discuss the basic elements of a story while learning the basics of ceramics. Projects will include drawing character designs and building models of characters, vehicles, buildings, etc in clay. The class concludes with a large collaborative story.

Out of this World Pottery

Experience basic ceramics and have a blast at the same time! Children will learn how to make simple pottery, coil pots, animals, and bowls. All student pottery will be glazed and fired and will be picked up 1-2 weeks after the end of the class. Your imagination is the only limitation with this class.

Painting Without a Brush!

Summer is the best time to go crazy with paint! We will experiment with fun ways to put paint on a page. Squirting, dripping, smashing, and throwing are just a FEW ways we can make some fantastic art!!! Sponges, Q-Tips, toothbrushes, yarn, tennis balls, and marbles are even more ways to put paint on a surface. We will play art games and view videos of artists using these unconventional techniques. Be sure to wear old clothes and shoes to this WORKSHOP!!!

Pulp Fiction and Non-Fiction:

(The Ultimate Recycling Event!) Use every imaginable type of paper from wallpaper to toilet tissue, magazine pages to sheet music, old books and cardboard! Create sculptures with paper, cardboard, glue, tape and string. Day one will introduce the techniques and concepts: tearing, shredding, gluing, molding, weaving, to name a few! We will make paper mosaic “paintings” to include a self portrait, along with functional 3-D objects and even altered books. We will view artwork of contemporary artists who use these techniques and media. You will have creative freedom to determine what you want to make!

Scratch Programming 2.0

Did our first camp fail to fully Scratch your programming itch? Join us for even more fun writing stories and playing and creating games with Scratch! This time, we’ll work on some of the more advanced features of the programming.

Seuss on the Loose

Dr. Seuss is on the loose at Southeast this summer! Oh, The Places You’ll Go during this fun-filled week of Seuss! With crafts, activities and games galore, this camp is sure to be a week that your child will remember. Our silly Seuss activities will instill a love of rhyming and silly stories in our campers of all ages!

Southeast Slam

Write. Read. Perform. SLAM! A slam is a competition in which poets perform original work alone or in teams before an audience. Slam can be hip hop, theatre, stand-up comedy, and everything in between. Put your feelings, thoughts, opinions, stories and ideas on paper, and then make them come to life with the tools and techniques of spoken word. Conquer fear, speak your mind, and have a blast doing it! Spend your week preparing for the Southeast SLAM completion for family and friends. Who knows…you could be the next slam star??

Space Cadet: Mission Eclipse

Are you a space cadet? Are you ready to join our Eclipse Mission? Come learn about the planets, the sun and the solar eclipse coming our way this August! Our mission will have you building solar eclipse viewers, harnessing the Sun’s power to make tasty snacks, playing out-of-this-world games and even going on a special celestial field-trip to witness the eclipse before it happens. Get ready for a whirlwind week of career exploration! Are you ready to practice healthcare skills such as measuring blood pressure and giving injections? Super Cool Med. School will explore medical science, diseases, medical professions and their work environments through a hands-on investigation! You will even have the opportunity to meet with various healthcare professionals and find out what makes healthcare an awesome career choice!

Superhero Science

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a superhero! Discover the real science behind the powers of your favorite superhero and villain. Kay will show you how POWERFUL science can be. By the end of this camp you will know exactly how Magneto uses magnetism to control metal, how a spider’s DNA turned Peter Parker into Spider-Man, and how Superman’s heat and x-ray vision works.

Tesselation Art

This is an art camp with a math component…wait…or is it a math camp with an art component? You be the judge! Do amazing and fun art projects each day while exploring mathematical concepts. A tessellation is created when a shape is repeated over and over again covering a plane without any gaps or overlaps. In this crazy camp you will learn how to create various tessellations using dynamic geometry, web-based tools as well as paper and pencil. We can’t wait to see what you create!

Urban Legend Camp

What is it about urban legends that capture our attention and won’t let go? Our bone-chilling camp will help answer this question. Campers will explore some classic legends and make up new ones to tantalize family and friends. This camp caters to students who want to share their voices, entertain audiences, and work on their storytelling skills and style. Emphasis will be placed on reading, writing, developing, and sharing of stories.

Wearable Art

Art to wear! Decorate yourself! Learn and practice the wearable art techniques of hand painting denim, stenciling a shirt, paint and embellish shoes or backpacks! Tie- dye, batik, indigo and bleaching are some of the methods we will explore. Wire and macrame jewelry making, too!

Weird Science

These are experiments your parents won’t let you do at home! We’re going to build a real working hovercraft and watch it levitate above ground. A huge mess will be made when you make your own volcano out of paper mache and watch it erupt! Launch balloon rockets into the air. We’ll explode lunch bags, make the grossest slime around and learn how to bend water with electricity.
