Jack Hensley

Professor Emeritus of Theatre Arts at Southeast Missouri State University, Hensley was on faculty in the Conservatory of Speech and Theatre from 1963 until his retirement in 1991. In his tenure as one of the principal directors of the University Theatre, Hensley staged a wide variety of plays and musicals, including Carnival, The Tempest, Come Back Little Sheba, Barefoot in the Park, The Lion in Winter, The Ruling Class, Charley’s Aunt, Dames at Sea, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, The Front Page, Born Yesterday, Twelfth Night, The Man of La Mancha, Hedda Gabler, Life With Father, Blithe Spirit, Royal Gambit, and Candida. From 1946 to 1947, Hensley was stationed in Japan while serving in the U.S. Army. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Southeast Missouri State University and went on to receive his MS and Ph.D. in Theatre from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He later completed one year of post-graduate study from the prestigious Yale School of Drama.
