The Speakers' Lab provides oral presentation consultation, preparation, and practice for Southeast students, faculty, and staff.
The lab features video recording and playback equipment (for speech rehearsal) and a meeting place for tutors (in the Speaking Across the Curriculum program) to work with students and for consultants to work with clients. Note: Scheduling and handouts will soon be available online.
The Speakers' Lab is located in Academic Hall, rooms 203 & 204. Walk-ins are welcome. Those seeking assistance should bring along the relevant assignment description as well as a hard copy of their presentation outline/manuscript. (The lab is not equipped for printing.)

Are you a high school student or a junior high school student who would like initial training in effective presentations or other communication endeavors (such as oral interpretation, argumentation and debate, etc.)?
Are you a teacher who is teaching public speaking (or wants to teach it) and would like some ideas for teaching the subject more effectively?

Our faculty and/or majors provide one-on-one assistance for various members of our campus population who are working on a presentation. Perhaps you're a professor who has a presentation at a conference. Maybe you're a supervisor for Facilities Management who wants pointers for briefing her or his staff. Perhaps you're a student athlete who wants to be better prepared for on-air interviews.
We operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Please understand, too, that the demands on our facility and the small number of our staff limit what we are able to provide. Requests need to be made with sufficient lead time in order to improve the chances for personal, one-on-one assistance. Those seeking assistance will need to complete and submit a form, along with their request for an appointment. Even if personal assistance is not available when needed, the handouts we provide likely can prove useful¬helping to coach your speech writing and delivery.

We have various speeches/speakers available each semester that your group or organization may find of interest. We post the speaker’s name and a synopsis of his or her speech, plus provide the relevant contact info.
As with the rest of our offerings, you will want to schedule with plenty of lead time.
