The principal goal of an internship (whether paid or unpaid) is to learn from experience.

You'll encounter new information and ideas, and you'll also apply the skills and understanding you've derived from your classes at Southeast.

Ideally, an internship provides the opportunity to explore a career and gain the relavant knowledge and skills required to enter into a particular field.

An internship in our program consists of:

  • Logging 150 hours of on-site professional experience
  • Meeting the course work responsibilities for SC 483 (e.g., logs, forms/ reports, work samples)

To qualify, a student must have:

  • Satisfactorily completed 18 hours of Communication Studies' courses (classes with an SC prefix and UI 301, 320, 345, 423, 425, or 504.)
  • Identified a site/ experience that can be deemed "worthy" of an internship
  • Followed the procedures outlined below to gain approval
Note: Employers look for detail-oriented self-starters who can work conscientiously and independently. A measure of your readiness for an internship will be your ability to follow the directions we provide.
