Tips for making your decision

  1. Recognize decision roadblocks
  2. List items, circumstances or even people that are getting in the way of making a decision. Examples could be related to parental pressure, lack of confidence, or motivational concerns. Once you recognize the roadblocks, it will be easier to move to the next step in the process.

  3. Identify your support system
  4. There is perhaps no decision quite as important as choosing a major or career path. Who are the people and resources available to assist you with the process? Although the decision must ultimately be yours, you don’t have to go through the process alone.

  5. Consider all alternatives
  6. There are no right or wrong career decisions, only opportunities to make choices based on the information you have available to you. That’s why it’s so important to be patient with the process and give yourself time to explore all of your options. Recognizing and setting new goals is an important step in helping to clarify which alternative may be your best option.

  7. Take responsibility
  8. What you decide is up to you, which is why it’s so important to make an informed decision. If you think that you may need help with choosing a major or career, contact Career Services at (573) 651-2583 to schedule an appointment.
