Policies & Procedures


In order to provide fair and equitable services to our students and employers, the Southeast Missouri State University Office of Career Services and its clients adhere to the following policies:

Employers must subscribe to:

Career Services does not knowingly furnish assistance and facilities for interviewing or other career services functions to employers who discriminate in their selection of employees on the basis of sex, age, disability, race, color, religion, marital status, veteran’s status, national or ethnic origin, or sexual orientation.

Career Services reserves the right to refuse service to employers for factors such as the following:

  • Misrepresentation by dishonesty or lack of information
  • Fraud
  • Complaints by students
  • Harassment of Southeast State University students, alumni, faculty, or staff
  • Breach of confidentiality
  • Requiring, at the time of application, personal information such as bank and social security numbers
  • Positions not likely of interest to college students or alumni
  • Excessive outlay of personal funding required to obtain the position
  • Failure to adhere to Career Services’ policies and/or any violation of Southeast State University rules and regulations, and local, state, or federal laws.

The Office of Career Services office contracts with Symplicity to provide is a career services software system for students and alumni of Southeast Missouri State University and employers seeking Southeast candidates for employment. Students and alumni can view, correct or change their information by logging into their account. Students and registered alumni can post resumes, view and apply for jobs, and more. Employers can view, correct or change their information by logging into their account. Registered employers can post positions, view approved resume books, and more.

Career Services Access

The Office of Career Services has the ability to conduct searches on resumes and candidate profiles to notify candidates of educational or employment opportunities through email communications. By entering data into the system, students and alumni may have data included in aggregate reports used for evaluation of employment activities, educational programs, reports developed for institutional studies, and salary surveys.

Privacy Policy

The Office of Career Services recognizes rights to privacy. Security precautions are utilized to make sure that any information about your company is only provided to students and alumni of Southeast Missouri State University. Private information (which may include name, address, e-mail address, and other information) is not shared with any individuals or organizations outside of Career Services unless appropriate authorization has been provided.

Employers & Job Postings

Southeast Missouri State University Career Services does not endorse any employer, makes no guarantee about positions listed, and urges students/alumni to use good judgment in all of their interactions with employers. Career Services is not responsible for safety, wages, working conditions, or other aspects of employment. Career Services staff will use increased efforts to verify that only legitimate employers are given access to provide a company profile which will enable them to post vacancies, access resumes and schedule interviews with student and alumni subscribers. Students and alumni using are expected to use good judgment in sharing personal information with potential employers.

Resume Books

As a user of, students and alumni have the option of inclusion in resume books. By participating in resume books, students and alumni consent to the release of their resume and certain employment related information. Resumes are not shared with third parties, such as employment agencies or search firms. Only the resumes of students who have given permission to have their resume included in Resume Books are shared with employers. Students have the option to opt in or out of having their resume included in Resume Books.

Student Expectations

The Office of Career Services is committed to complying with the ethical standards of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), and expects students to be honest and professional in the internship and job search process. We believe it is important for employers to be fully aware of the expectations we have of our student/alumni.

As a STUDENT/ALUMNI user of, students agree to:

  • Provide current, accurate and truthful information about their qualifications and educational background on their online profile, resume, supplemental job search documents uploaded to the system, and in interactions with employers.
  • Be responsible for selecting an internship or job position. Although Career Services reviews and approves all job vacancies, the posting of an internship or job in does not mean that Career Services is making any recommendation, representations or guarantees regarding the internship or job. Students and alumni are responsible for requesting additional information from a potential internship site or employer as necessary to make employment decisions.
  • Keep ALL interview appointments with employers or notify employers and Career Services in advance of any emergency requiring cancelation of any commitments. Students and alumni are advised to cancel or reschedule interviews in advance and told that late cancellations or a “no-show” require an apology email or phone call to the employer.
  • Accept interviews with employers in which they have a sincere interest and prepare for each professionally knowing that they represent both themselves and Southeast Missouri State University.
  • Honor any acceptance of an internship or job offer. Once an offer is accepted, students and alumni are advised to withdraw from consideration for other opportunities and discontinue their job search. They are also advised to inform Career Services staff regarding any extenuating circumstances that may cause re-evaluation of any internship/job acceptance before notifying the employer.

Suspension/Termination of Services is a privilege and not a right, and services can be suspended or terminated at the discretion of the Office of Career Services. Students are encouraged to notify the Office of Career Services if they perceive any violations of ethical conduct on the part of employers. Employers are encouraged to notify the Office of Career Services if they perceive any inappropriate or concerning conduct or behavior being demonstrated during interactions with students or alumni. Career Services appreciates employers joining in on committing to the highest standards of ethical behavior relating to the internship or job search process.

Job Searching

Job seekers are advised to exercise due diligence and use common sense and caution when applying for or accepting any position. Students and alumni are encouraged to take responsibility for all necessary precautions when interviewing for, or accepting positions. For their privacy and protection when applying to a job online, students/alumni are advised to NOT provide social security numbers to a prospective employer, provide credit card or bank account information, or perform any sort of monetary transaction.
