  • Externs must be enrolled as a full-time student at Southeast during the spring 2017 semester.
  • Open to all majors.
  • Some organizations may require that students be US citizens or permanent residents.
  • Students will be matched with organizations based on majors or fields of interest.
Student Placement

  • Reasonable efforts will be made to place students with professionals in their field of interest.
  • The Externship Program represents a learning experience; it is not equivalent to the traditional internship, nor does it imply “favored” status or otherwise impact eligibility for talent acquisition or employment by company hosts.

Thank you for hosting students of Southeast Missouri State University for our 2017 Job Shadow/Externship Program.

Externships are valuable career learning experiences in that they provide the opportunity for students to see first-hand what the day-to-day work activities and responsibilities are in various professions and industries.

The on-site experience will be 1 -3 days (depending on the employer) during the course of Southeast’s spring break (March 13-17, 2017). Unlike an internship, the externship is a learning opportunity and no salary will be paid to the student. Some of the learnings can include: a tour, overview of the company, insights into being successful in your organization and perhaps a meet and greet with executives. Although it is not required, we encourage companies to provide lunch as part of the program.
