Passport to Success

The HCB Passport Program is designed to give business majors the opportunity to gain critical knowledge and skills not always available in the classroom, but vital to "rounding out" the ideal graduate seeking to enter a professional career. Accumulate 1000 passport points to be awarded a Certificate of Professional Advancement by the Harrison College of Business and Computing.

The HCB Passport Program is designed to give business majors the opportunity to gain critical knowledge and skills not always available in the classroom, but vital to "rounding out" the ideal graduate seeking to enter a professional career.

The passport should serve as a reminder of the Harrison College of Business and Computing' commitment to your success beyond the classroom.

Important Information:

  • At the end of each semester, activities stamped in the Passport will be recorded in the official university transcript (pending).
  • Required events count 100 points each. Optional events count 25 points each.
  • Optional events/activities/actions are "STANDARD" or "GOLD". Gold activities count double!
  • Some items must be preapproved.
  • Please note that there is an extra cost for some items. For example, events at the River Campus require a ticket purchase.
  • All items require documentation for attendance and/or participation.
  • Note that when all "Required" items are completed you will receive the WILDCARD 100 point bonus stamp!

Passport stamps are available the last 2 weeks of classes plus finals week every semester. Contact any of the above persons during this time frame for your stamp(s).

Important Things to Remember About Your Passport:

Keep it protected and safe; it is your official record of professional accomplishments!

Benefits of Participating in the Passport Program:

  • You will obtain important and critical knowledge, learn the necessary skills, and further develop attitudes and behaviors to be successful after you graduate and leave the HCB.
  • Those successfully completing the program (achieving at least 1,000 points) will be awarded a Certificate of Professional Advancement by the Harrison College of Business and Computing.
  • Information captured in your passport will be recorded on your official university transcript.
  • In the competitive world of securing that first career job, the passport, will represent an important element of distinctiveness, giving you a "leg up" on the competition.
  • Your passport and binder of documentation will be significant components to include in your interviews and other job search activities.

Am I required to participate in the passport program?
Students are strongly encouraged to participate in this program, but are not required to do so.

Is there a cost of the passport?
Your original passport is provided to you at no cost by the HCB. Please note: There may be a cost associated with an activity you select.

When can I get my passport stamped?
During the last two weeks of classes plus finals week of each semester.

What if I lose my passport?
You my request a replacement passport from the Associate Dean, DH241B. The cost is $10.

What specific documentation do I need in order to get a stamp?

  • Workshops and seminars: certificate of attendance (form available at HCB website
  • Clubs and organizations: letter from organization on the organization’s letterhead, signed by president and faculty sponsor
  • Teams: Letter from team sponsor.
  • Attendance to events/activities: handout at event site accompanied by attendance form (available at HCB website) signed by faculty or other official person at the event.
    Internship: employer evaluation.
  • Career Leader Assessment: assessment report.
  • Career Services (CL001-CL004): documentation from Career Services.
  • Voluntary community service: certificate of participation attesting to your participation signed by sponsoring organization or recipient.
  • HCB sponsored foreign travel: certificate of attendance.
  • St. Louis Interview Days: certificate of attendance.
  • Job search portfolio: the portfolio (see website for items to include: “Documentation of Job Search Portfolio.”
  • Mock interview session: certificate of attendance
  • River Campus cultural event: certificate of attendance.
  • Presentation to external audience: certificate of attendance.
  • Publication in professional business journal: copy of journal article

What if I lose the required documentation?
It is your responsibility to present the appropriate documentation of attendance/participation. You should determine if the documentation can be recreated. Copies of signatures are not acceptable.

What if I do not accumulate 1,000 points before I graduate?
You may continue accumulating points if you enter the HCB MBA program. If you graduate and leave campus, the passport should be useful in your job search, and serve as a reminder of our commitment to your success. Since a primary benefit of the passport program is recording your activities on the official transcript, it is in your interest to accumulate the 1,000 points prior to graduation.

Can I receive a stamp for the same event/activity more than one time?
Yes, some events/activities are available for multiple stamps. Events available for multiple stamps are listed more than once in the Passport stamping section.

Who do I contact if I have a question about the passport program? Your first and best source is the HCB website. If the information you seek is not on the website, you should contact the Business Advising Center. If your question remains unanswered, you should contact your advisor.

Certificate of Attendance

Used in conjunction with events attended. The certificate must be signed by an official person at the event's conclusion. An example could be attending a Common Hour speaker event.

Certificate of Participation

Used in conjunction with events you participate in. The certificate must be signed by an official person representing the organization you are representing in the event. An example could be a community project of your club, fraternity, sorority, church, or civic organization.

Cultural Events List

Provides the date and type of event at the River Campus of all "passport acceptable" activities. Please note that there is a cost to attend most of the cultural events.

Type of Documentation Required for Passport Activities

A listing of the various types of documentation to submit for verification.

Compilation of materials needed in a job search. The portfolio includes an approved resume, research on at least five companies or firms, three samples of important work you have completed, and a timeline of your job search actions.

Getting Started as a Pre-Business Major
