Choose 6-8 hours from Biology Electives.

A minimum of 3 hours must be taken from the following courses from the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (http://gcrl.usm.edu/) or comparable institution.  See Gulf Coast Research Laboratory Field Program (http://gcrl.usm.edu/) for course lists and dates.

Special Note

You may substitute the corresponding lecture / laboratory summer courses* from the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory or from another comparable institution. Marine Biology is a prerequisite for most other courses at the GCRL.

BI 352/353 Marine Science II: Marine Biology (5 credit hours) for BI 3XX.

ZO 562/561 Marine Ecology (5 credit hours) for BI 4XX.

ZO 500/502 Marine Invertebrate Zoology (6 credit hours) for BI 4XX.

*Not all courses are available every summer. Similar courses taken at another marine laboratory may be substituted for the GCRL requirement. Contact the Biology Department or a Marine Biology advisor for more information.
