My goal as an educator is to convey and share my love for photographic arts with the intent that my enthusiasm will become infectious. It is my hope that my students will become not just photographers, but the before mentioned professionals in visual literacy, each able to embrace and explore their talents which are founded upon a solid skill set, an ability to think analytically, and executed through an articulate and outspoken voice.

What area do you teach?

Photography

Education/Degree(s)

MFA, Visual Studies, State University of New York at Buffalo
BA, Photography, Brooks Institute

Your philosophy of teaching:

It is currently a very exciting time to be in the photographic field. Few mediums share photography’s prolific growth due large in part to society’s obsession with images. There has never been a more important time for photographers to be the definitive craftsmen of their trade. Leaving behind the shackles of the photographer stereotype, today’s photographers are professionals in visual literacy that provide individuals and businesses guidance as they navigate consumers' insatiable need for imagery.

Additionally, I am deeply committed to ensuring my students are attuned to the issues of diversity they will encounter professionally. These issues are ingrained in every class that I teach, because my intent is for my students to understand they unique role they will play in shaping societal viewpoints of marginalized groups and perspectives. I want them to understand the world only gets better once we (media professionals) become better at representation.
