Sculpture

The sculpture area strives to educate the contemporary artist within an expanding world of art. Using a wide range of traditional and experimental art-making practices, students engage in material research and hands-on investigation, culminating in a growing body of sculptural artwork. With emphasis on artistic expression, conceptual development, creative problem solving, and studio competency and safety, students within the sculpture area actively pursue a personal artistic language and drive that will last beyond their academic careers at Southeast Missouri State University. The sculpture studios consist of a fully equipped metal shop, wood shop, and mixed media studio. Sculpture students are provided opportunities to develop as professionals through visitations to Graduate Programs and field trips to museums and galleries in the Cape Girardeau region, St. Louis, and beyond. Sculpture exhibition, commission, and grant opportunities are made available throughout the Southeast Missouri State University campuses and the City of Cape Girardeau. The sculpture area at Southeast Missouri State University is invested in the education and success of inquisitive, explorative students who are collaborators within the larger world of cultural expression and global existence.
