Scholar Participation Agreement

Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program Scholar Participation Agreement

By submitting this digital agreement, I understand and agree to the following terms and conditions governing all participants in the TRIO/McNair Scholars Program:

I. Program Activities

I will attend all activities sponsored by the Program, including but not limited to:

  • McNair Moments, workshops and seminars
  • Research presentations by McNair Scholars
  • Conferences and/or graduate school visits (if eligible)
  • Planned cultural events
  • Designated speakers, workshops, or other academic events

II. Academic Counseling and Monitoring

I will meet with the Program Coordinator and/or Graduate Assistant at least once a month to:

  • Monitor my academic progress and to update my short-term and long-term objectives
  • To immediately arrange tutorial services when experiencing academic difficulties
  • Complete a needs survey, review of my academic plan, and assessment tests

III. Graduate School Preperation

I will take the necessary steps to prepare for graduate school, including but not limited to:

  • Prepare for and take requisite graduate school entrance examinations and submit the scores to the McNair program staff
  • Write and submit a Personal Statement*
  • Prepare a resume
  • Apply to graduate programs at least 9 months prior to planned attendance
  • Notify Program staff of all graduate schools to which I apply
  • Notify Program staff of all graduate schools to which I am accepted
  • Notify Program staff of the school that I will attend, along with any financial aid information from that institution as required by federal regulation

IV. Ongoing Commitments

From this moment forward, I will:

  • Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above in each semester I participate in the Program and remain in good academic standing according to SEMO academic standards
  • Adhere to the Southeast Missouri State University Student Code of Conduct, including during university-sponsored trips
  • Check my email for McNair correspondence daily
  • Notify Program staff of cancellations prior to any appointment, and after missed appointments due to personal emergency
  • Notify Program staff of any and all potential schedule conflicts, including but not limited to: class time conflicts, vacation or other travel, and personal emergency
  • Inform the TRIO/McNair Scholars Program of any changes in address or telephone number
  • Participate in program evaluation and follow-up surveys as required by federal regulation
  • Notify Program staff of special recognitions and awards I receive or publications I am featured in
  • Notify Program staff of special recognitions and awards I receive or publications I am featured in
  • Update my graduate enrollment status and some limited personal information including but not restricted to my address over the next 10 years

V. Academic Year Research and Summer Research Internship

If accepted in to the research internship, I will participate fully in research as a McNair Scholar by accomplishing the following tasks:

  • Complete a minimum of 20 hours of directed research per week
  • Attend regular meetings with my faculty mentor
  • Submit weekly research reports*
  • Complete and submit a research paper that is of publishable or presentable quality by the deadline*
  • Complete an oral or poster presentation of research findings at a McNair or Student Research Conference*
  • Complete and submit an evaluation of my faculty mentor

Failure to comply with the rules governing this program and failure to meet these responsibilities as required will affect stipend payments* and can result in suspension or termination from the program. I understand and accept these terms.
