Fast Facts Just minutes from downtown Cape Girardeau and the legendary Mississippi River, you have access to a variety of shopping and dining opportunities in historic Cape Girardeau. Cape Girardeau is only two hours south of St. Louis and three hours north of Memphis on Interstate 55 and has easy access to Southern Illinois, Kentucky and Indiana on Interstate 57. Entering freshmen have an average ACT score of 23, while Governor’s Scholars and National Merit Scholars have an ACT score of 31 and a GPA of 3.9. Textbook rental greatly reduces costs. Instead of paying $50 to $100 for each book, you pay only $21.79 per course and you don’t have to worry about trying to sell them later. Our classes average 25 to 30 students - even at the freshman level - and our student-faculty ration is 18 to 1, making Southeast the perfect size for the opportunities you expect and desire. At Southeast, 100 percent of our majors offer an experiential or hands-on learning component, from student teaching for education majors to internships with companies for business majors, as well as a vast array of opportunities for the visual and performing arts. When you graduate from Southeast, you'll have actual work experience on your resume! Southeast is a comprehensive university, with more than 200 different areas of study. So if you come here with one major in mind and decide to change majors, we'll still have the courses and programs to fit your needs. Southeast is at the forefront of technology in education. From online courses to pod- and vodcasting making it possible to hear and view class lectures in MP3, MP4, RSS or Atom formats, students are learning beyond the static desktop computer to anytime, any place, anywhere. Using your iPod, laptop or other wireless device, students can access computer simulation foremats for many of the academic areas. Across campus, computer labs are open day and night, with more than 3,000 computers available to students. Southeast has 35 miles of fiber optic cable, e-mail accounts for every student and constant contact with "My Southeast," the internet portal. In conjunction with the state’s common library platform, MOBIUS, you have access to nearly 14 million volumes including books, periodicals, sophisticated research and archives from any of the 50 member libraries. Kent Library houses the famous Louis Daniel Brodsky William Faulkner Collection and is an official Government Document Depository. Southeast has some of the newest and most up-to-date facilities in the Midwest. Among them is Robert A. Dempster Hall, home of the Donald L. Harrison College of Business, featuring state-of-the-art computer labs, seminar rooms, two fully mediated business policy classrooms and a 400-seat auditorium. The new Otto and Della Seabaugh Polytechnic Building is a $9 million facility with the latest high-tech equipment and includes a Technology Resource Center, which is recognized statewide. The newly constructed River Campus is home to the Earl and Margie Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts and is the only Missouri complex of its kind which combines theatre, dance, music and art all under the same roof. A comprehensive center for the arts, the opening season features an array of music and theatre events in addition to touring shows and art exhibits Southeast Missouri State University competes at the NCAA Division I level and is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference. Southeast has won a total of 40 OVC regular-season championships and 16 OVC Tournament titles during its first 18 years in the league. Southeast has won seven of the last 14 OVC Women's All-Sports trophies. Southeast has six men's sports and nine women's sports. The men compete in football, basketball, cross country, baseball and indoor and outdoor track & field. The women compete in volleyball, soccer, basketball, cross country, gymnastics, softball, tennis, and indoor and outdoor track & field. The Redhawks gymnastics team won the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women Academic Team Championship for the third-consecutive year in 2008-09, becoming only the second school in the nation to win the award three years in a row.

There are more than 12 musical groups including the Golden Eagles Marching Band, which has a proud history of awards and accomplishments, performing in locations such as Scotland and the Rose Bowl. Musical Performance Groups The Show Me Center is home to the University’s championship basketball teams and is the site of numerous concerts. The adjoining Student Recreation Center is a 90,000 square-foot-facility with five full- or 12 half-basketball courts, six racquetball courts, a weight room, an aerobics studio, a climbing wall and a 200-meter indoor track and a student aquatic center. In addition, the University also has a Student Recreation Center-South featuring a full array of weight machines, treadmills, a gymnasium and a suspended jogging track. Noted as one of the most outstanding residence hall dining facilities in the nation, Southeast’s dining facilities are catered by Chartwells. With various dining locations on campus, you have access to anything from early morning breakfast to a midnight snack. The new “Skylight Terrace,” centrally located in the University Center, is quickly becoming a student gathering place throughout the busy school day and "Rowdy's" in the Towers Complex caters to the hungry residential life crowds. |
