Jonathan Allender-Zivic received his Bachelors in theatre with a technical emphasis from Rocky Mountain College, and his MFA from Western Illinois University in Design and Technical Production with an emphasis in lighting design. Jonathan was previously the technical director, lighting designer, and visiting assistant professor for Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Additionally he has taught at Blackburn College and Western Illinois University.
Jonathan has over 125 professional and academic credits in the past 5 years, keeping an active hand in the professional arena; he has worked regionally in the mid-west designing lights for both The Old Creamery Theatre Company and Circa 21 Dinner Playhouse. He has worked all over the country with different summer theatres, Festival 56 (Princeton, IL), West Virginia Public Theatre (Morgantown, WV) Mt. Gretna Playhouse (Mt. Gretna, PA), Canterbury Summer Theatre (Michigan City, IN). Past designs include: City of Angels, Snoopy, Blithe Spirit, Drood, Miracle of 34th Street, A Christmas Story: the Musical, The 39 Steps, Carousel, The King and I, and The Full Monty, to name a few.
An active member of USITT, Jonathan regularly attends, and presents at the annual national conference on topics ranging from season selection, teaching approaches, budgets and digital portfolios.
Jonathan enjoys spending time with his 2 dogs, jogging, hiking, camping, fitness conditioning, and cooking.
