Facilities Southeast’s physical education program is housed in the Parker Athletic and Physical Education Complex. The complex, which is named for Southeast’s ninth president, Dr. Walter Parker, opened in 1960. It features a full gymnasium, dance studio, gymnastics practice studio, and many meeting and class rooms. Parker also houses the Physical Education, Sports Medicine and Dance programs, as well as the nationally ranked Women’s Gymnastics Program. Parker also offers students an opportunity to develop skills in areas such as self-defense and martial arts. The Student Recreation Center is also used by the program as an additional teaching station. It contains the equivalent of five basketball courts, racquetball courts, a weight training room and two dance/aerobics rooms with sprung floors. Most education courses are held in the Scully Building, located on the North side of campus. The Scully Building was completed in 1971 and named in honor of the 11th president of the University, Dr. Mark F. Scully. The education facilities at Southeast are top quality. In addition to modern classrooms with computers and other forms of instructional technology, you will have access to a fully equipped Instructional Resources & Technology Lab (IRTL). The IRTL contains not only printed reference materials but also computer workstations. This open microcomputer laboratory offers PCs, MACs and Internet connections. Additionally, the IRTL is the region’s finest instructional resource center, housing current diagnostic and instructional materials. The IRTL has printed reference materials, psychological and diagnostic testing equipment, videotaping equipment, and equipment for making transparencies, bulletin boards and other instructional materials. |
