Student Organizations ClubTEC is our new umbrella organization to serve the needs and interests of all students and majors in the Department of Industrial and Engineering Technology. This club was formed by IET students. Recently the students completed a draft of the bylaws and petitioned Student Government for an official student organization designation on campus, which they achieved. The bylaws state that other ancillary student organizations within the department, such as SME and Society of Photographic Artists, will continue to be operational under the auspices of ClubTEC.
ClubTEC offers several activities through the year that all IET students can participate in. Among those activities are the annual Bowling Night at Westpark Lanes, annual BBQ at Arena Park baseball fields, and various presentations in which area companies speak to members about who they are, what they do, and give job/internship information. For more information regarding ClubTEC, contact faculty advisors Ms. Jessica King, jrking@semo.edu, Dr. Doug Koch, dskoch@semo.edu, or Mr. Kevin McMeel, ktmcmeel@semo.edu. The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) is a student organization sponsored by the department offering numerous educational and networking opportunities for students. SME is the acronym for the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. The Society of Manufacturing Engineers is the world's leading professional society supporting lifelong manufacturing education and advancement. Through our member programs, publications, expositions and professional development resources, SME promotes an increased awareness of manufacturing engineering and helps keep manufacturing professionals up to date on leading trends and technologies. Chapter S208 is a student chapter sponsored through the Department of Industrial and Engineering Technology (IET) within the School of Polytechnic Studies (SPS) at Southeast Missouri State University. Additionally, the S208 chapter is assisted and governed by its parent Chapter 17, located in St. Louis, MO. Membership in this organization is open to ALL students of the Department of Industrial and Engineering Technology, as they represent the true demographics of manufacturing industries. Members of S208 are afforded opportunities for academic, professional and social networking through the various manufacturing plant tours, regional Chapter Officer’s Conferences (COC), student regional/national competitions and monthly chapter meetings. Additionally, students have the opportunity to acquire both formal and informal leadership skills. Formal student leadership opportunities are provided by serving as chapter officers. Informal opportunities exist through participation in on/off-campus activities, fund-raising events and recruitment of new members. Student members are eligible for competitive scholarships offered through SME. In the past, IET students have been successful in competing for these scholarships. Generally, two or more students per year have received financial awards up to $1,000. Certification Opportunities Industrial Management and Manufacturing Engineering Technology students are eligible to take the following SME certifications:
The Society of Photographic Artists exists to provide students with the opportunity to do photographic work such as developing and printing and to explore and expand students' experience. The club meets once every two weeks to discuss finances, plan events and explore ideas in today's photography. Events include trips to professional studios and picturesque locations, special photography opportunities such as sepia toning prints, and often fund raising events such as printing t-shirts. Membership costs only $10/semester and allows access to Southeast's darkroom and developing equipment for students not enrolled in a photography class. If you have any further questions about the club or are interested in joining, please contact Ms. Jessica King, jrking@semo.edu, or Missy Lane, malane1s@semo.edu. |
