Southeast Missouri State University

Real World Experience

  • Undergraduate students are encouraged to participate in research with faculty members and to present their findings at various local, regional and national forums such as the National Conference for Undergraduate Research, the Missouri Academy of Science and the Southeast Missouri State University Student Research Conference.

  • As an upper-level student, you are encouraged to apply for a position as a lab assistant or a grader for lower-level courses. These jobs, in which you will be explaining laboratory procedures and physical concepts to other students, will give you the leadership skills needed in today’s work force.

  • You also have the opportunity to participate in any number of internships. In recent years, our students have been very successful in obtaining National Science Foundation (NSF) sponsored Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) internships at locations such as the University of Arkansas, the University of North Texas, Indiana University and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Other students have secured equally impressive opportunities, including an internship with NASA at the Kennedy Space Flight Center.
