Career Opportunities Chemists are employed in an astonishing variety of fields including education, research, management, marketing, environmental studies, quality control, medicine and forensic science. The high demand for chemists in 2001 by all major pharmaceutical and chemical companies resulted in unemployment rates less than two percent and starting salaries averaging $30,000 for new bachelor of science chemists hired by private industry. Furthermore, chemists find their education, training and experience as problem-solvers prepares them for advancement to supervisory and management positions.
