Student Government Funding Information

All registered Student Organizations on campus are eligible to receive Student Government funding to supplement events, conferences, equipment, competitions, etc. If your organization would like to apply for funding, just follow the steps below! If at any time you have questions, please feel free to contact the Student Government Treasurer, Tyler Sayer, at tjsayer1s@semo.edu.

1. Decide which Student Government funding account you need to apply for:

Student Organizations Account Discretionary Account
  • Campus events that are free and open to all Southeast students.
  • Examples: Guest speakers, entertainers, festivals, programs, social projects, educational activities, etc.
  • The average amount funded per request last year was $1,142.30.
  • The amount available this year is approximately $30,000.
  • Miscellaneous student, club, or campus needs.
  • Examples: Conferences, equipment, national competitions, supplies, etc.
  • The average amount funded per request last year was $856.17.
  • The amount available this year is approximately $33,000.

Information & Procedures for Student Organization Account Funding:

Requests MUST be made at least 30 days before the allocation is needed.

3. Attend a funding informational or schedule an individual appointment with the Student Government Treasurer to discuss funding.

Funding Informational Dates: 6:00 PM in the UC Tribute Room

August 27th
September 3rd (In the CSI Conference Room), 17th
October 8th
November 12th
January 21st
February 11th, 25th

4. Thoroughly look over funding guidelines and expectations to make sure your organization is eligible for Student Government funding.

5. Complete the Student Organization Funding Application and submit it (along with your attached materials) to UC202. Applications must be completed and submitted by Wednesday at 5:00 PM prior to the scheduled Funding Board meetings. Take a look at the example application to get an idea of what we are looking for. A typed application is preferred.

6. All Funding Board meetings are held Mondays at 4:30 PM. There, a member of your organization will further explain the funding request to Funding Board. Please be prepared to answer specific questions not only about the event, but also about your organization and its role on campus. You should also have an example of advertising for your event.

2014-2015 Funding Board Dates: 4:30 PM in the UC Board Room

September 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th (Meeting on September 28th will be held in the UC Mississippi Room)
October 13th, 27th
November 10th, 24th
January 26th
February 2nd, 16th
March 3rd, 9th, 30th

7. After Funding Board attains all the information needed, they will vote on the allocation and contact your organization with the result.

8. IF the SGA Funding Board approves your allocation, then Funding Board’s suggested amount will go to Senate.

9. Senate meets Mondays at 8:00 PM. You will have an opportunity to explain your allocation to the entire body. If you are unable or unwilling to make this time, a member of the Funding Board can explain, as best as possible, your organization’s allocation.

10. IF Senate approves your allocation, you MUST meet with Jim Essner (jessner@semo.edu) BEFORE you make any purchases. Your organization is responsible for arranging this meeting in a timely fashion. 

11. Jim will give you instructions on how to obtain the allocation. If you do not complete his instructions within a month of the event, your organization will no longer be eligible for the allocated funds.

4. A member of the Student Government Executive Board will contact you and arrange a meeting (most are held Mondays at 5:30 PM). There, a member of your organization will further explain the funding request to the Executive Board. Please be prepared to answer specific questions not only about the event, but also about your organization and its role on campus.

5. After the Executive Board attains all the information needed, they will vote on the allocation and contact your organization with the result.

10. Please submit your follow-up document within one month after the completion of your event. This one page, detailed document should explain not only your organization’s personal benefits, but also how your organization plans to bring those benefits to Southeast’s campus as a whole.

  • Failure to submit this document could result in cancellation of your funds. Executive Board's evaluation of this document will be essential for all of your organization's future Discretionary account requests.
