Welcome to Southeast’s Department of Psychology

Psychology is a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) discipline that investigates how people think, feel, and act. Students in the department acquire a strong knowledge base and critical thinking skills through a comprehensive and flexible curriculum to achieve their professional goals. Students also become leaders in their communities by working with faculty members from diverse backgrounds in research, internship, and student organization opportunities.


Goals

The department provides experiences that develop students' skills and knowledge across 5 major categories. These categories originate from the American Psychological Association's (APA) Guidelines for the Undergraduate Major. These categories include:

  • Knowledge base in psychology
  • Scientific inquiry and critical thinking
  • Ethical and social responsibility
  • Communication
  • Professional development
