Fruehwald to Perform Faculty Recital Oct. 25

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Oct. 12, 2009 – Southeast Missouri State University Professor of Music Robert Fruehwald will perform his composed music along with visiting flutist Leslie Marrs at a faculty recital at 3 p.m. Oct. 25 in the Robert F. and Gertrude L. Shuck Music Recital Hall at the River Campus.

The recital will feature three pieces composed by Fruehwald and two others by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and François Borne, respectively.

Marrs, an assistant professor of flute at Drake University, will join Fruehwald in the recital.  She recently released a CD of Fruehwald’s music entitled “Robert Fruehwald:  Music for Flutes and Guitar,” so Fruehwald invited her to perform with him at the recital.

The first work will be “Sonata for Flute and Piano” which Fruehwald composed and will accompany on the piano.  “Sonata in A Minor for Solo Flute, H562,” by C.P.E. Bach will follow.  Another Fruehwald piece called “Duo on Bulgarian Melodies” with Patrick Rafferty on the guitar will be performed before the intermission.

After the intermission, they will play “Three Fantasies on Irish Folksongs” by Fruehwald.  The recital will conclude with Matthew Yount featured on the piano in François Borne’s “Carmen Fantasy.”

To purchase tickets for the recital, stop by or call the River Campus Box Office at (573) 651-2265.  Cost is $3 for students with a Southeast student I.D. and $8 for regular admission.
