Masterclasses, String Workshops and Other Events

Masterclasses, String Workshops, and other events allow students to perform for each other and receive critique from the instructor.  Technical and musical points are discussed.  Regular opportunities to perform in masterclasses for renowned artists are organized, as well.  Recent masterclasses at Southeast have been presented by the Leontovych String Quartet, the Amabile Piano Quartet, and principal members of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.

Other performing opportunities include participating in one of the many active student ensembles at Southeast.  These include Opera Workshop Orchestra, pit orchestras for musicals, and reading orchestras for student conductors and composers.  These ensembles are organized as need or interest arises.  Additionally, the University Jazz Band is a highly visible and very exciting ensemble for string bass or electric bass students.

For further information concerning any of the string/orchestral opportunities at Southeast, please feel free to call Dr. Sara Edgerton, Associate Professor of Cello and String Bass and Director of the University Symphony Orchestra at (573) 651-2140.
