Carol McDowell Music Education Dr. Carol McDowell, professor of music education, holds degrees from Southeast Missouri State University (B.M.E. and B.M.) and Florida State University (M.M.E. and Ph.D.). She was appointed to the faculty in 1998. Prior to coming to Southeast Department of Music, Dr. McDowell taught elementary music, band and choir in St. Louis County and also taught applied flute at two St. Louis music stores. Professor McDowell is an active researcher and flute performer. She has training in Dalcroze Eurthymics, Discipline-Based Music Education, and using jazz in the general-music classroom. She holds three levels of certification in both the Orff and Kodaly teaching methods and she is also a licensed Kindermusik educator. She is serving as the editor of the Missouri Journal of Research in Music Education for the term 2004-2008, and was appointed to the American Orff-Schulwerk Association Editorial Board for The Orff Echo, 2008-2012. At Southeast, she teaches undergraduate and graduate music-education courses.
