Ellen Hahs

Curator of Education
Office: 180 Cultural Arts  Center

As Curator of Education, Ellen develops the educational programming such as workshops, lectures, and family days for the museum.  She manages the outreach program for the Southeast Explorer Mobile Museum.  She also supervises the museum’s volunteer program, prepares promotional materials, and oversees the museum website.
“I am able to incorporate my two passions with this position at Southeast, education and art.  I enjoy working with people and promoting the arts in our area. I look forward to our Tuesdays at the Museum.  I will be learning a lot from our visitors.  I love to hear the stories people tell, that connect to our exhibits and displays,” she says.

A Sikeston native, Ellen received her bachelor’s degree from Southeast Missouri State University in Education. Ellen’s background is in elementary education, with an emphasis in art.  After several years of teaching, her interest in art brought her back to Southeast where she completed an internship with the museum. She became Outreach Specialist and presented educational exhibits on the Southeast Explorer before being promoted to Curator of Education.  She has been with the University since 2005.

When not managing the education programs for the museum, Ellen spends her time cooking and grilling, traveling, reading, painting, and socializing with friends and family.
