The Program

The Jane Stephens Honors Program offers numerous benefits for you as an international student. It is designed to let you explore the world of honors classes and get to know other exceptional students.

Students who complete the Jane Stephens Honors Program requirements will be recognized as follows.

  1. Designated as an Honors Scholar.
  2. Receive a medallion to be worn at the Commencement.
  3. Completion of the Jane Stephens Honors Program requirements will be noted on their academic transcript.

The benefits go beyond the academic aspects. While in the program, you will have the opportunity to get more involved on campus and participate in several events organized by the Student Honors Council, such as trivia nights, outdoor games, dinners, and volunteer opportunities.

The Jane Stephens Honors Program House can also be your home away from home. The Honors House provides a learning environment to study and spend some quality time with other honors students. Its amenities provides a computer lab, WiFi, a library, study areas, cable TV, a full kitchen, and free printing.

Admission

To be admitted into the Jane Stephens Honors Program, International students must have at least 15 semester hours of college credit and at least a 3.5 cumulative college grade point average.

I meet the requirements for ACT/SAT score and GPA. How could I apply to the program prior coming to Southeast Missouri State University and be admitted in my first semester as other domestic students?

You will need to contact the program through honors@semo.edu, 573-651-2513, or visiting us at the Honors House at 603 North Henderson.

I am an exchange student for a semester/year at Southeast Missouri State University. Can I apply for the program?

No. The program is tailored to full-time enrolled undergraduate students at Southeast Missouri State University.

What benefits will the program bring to my career in my home country?

The program offers you an opportunity to develop independent studies with faculty in their area of expertise. This can potentially attract employers in your field.

I would like to cook with some friends who are not honors students at the Honors House. Would that be possible?

Yes. As long as there are honors students within the group, you can cook and use cooking utensils provided in the kitchen.

How much does it cost to participate in the program?

There is no cost to be part of the program.
