Dr. Carl Bloom, Ph.D.

Dr. Carl Bloom joined the English department in 2012. Dr. Bloom has a Ph.D. in American Literature from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale (2012) . He also received a Master of Arts degree in English from the University of Southern Mississippi (1996), and B.A.s in both English and Art from Coe College (1989).

Dr. Bloom has been teaching face to face and online courses in literature (LI 256, LI 220 and LI 222) and in English composition (EN 100 and EN 140) at Southeast Missouri; he is also a Graduate Faculty who has taught courses in Creative Writing, the History of the Novel, Literary Theory, Journalism, Online Media and the Contemporary Novel at other institutions.

Dr. Bloom has published one novel, Three Girls: A Twenty-first Century Tale, and numerous short stories. His latest story, "The Lightbearer," was published in The Montreal Review, and his story "The Alley" was included in The New Anthem, a collection of stories by writers from South Asia. He has also published essays and poetry.

Dr. Bloom is currently the Chair-Elect of the Faculty Senate, and will take over the Chair position in May 2015.
