As an office in the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Success of the University, the Educational Access Programs fulfills the following mission:

  • Promote advocacy for students and their rights
  • Provide leadership in the promotion of multiculturalism and diversity
  • Promote student learning
  • Provide support for initiatives designed to recruit and retain at risk students
  • Guiding student personal growth and maturity
  • Enhance the quality of student and campus life
  • Help students evaluate and effectively implement life plans
  • Assure equal access and opportunity for all students

The purpose of Educational Access Programs (EAP) is to enhance the quality of the educational experience for minority students in particular, and all students in general, through programs, services, advocacy, and referral to appropriate resources. EAP is actively involved in the enrollment development functions of the University with respect to recruitment and retention of minority students. In addition, EAP responds to the need to expose all students to, and involve in, a wide range of multicultural activities and initiatives. EAP fulfills its purpose by working in cooperation with other administrative and academic units, student organizations, and the Cape Girardeau community.
