Southeast Debate Team

The Southeast Debate Team is a highly successful and award-winning team that gives students of any major the opportunity to sharpen and show off their oral communication skills within the argumentative arena. The Southeast Debate Team has received national awards from the National Educational Debate Association. In addition, the team was ranked first in the nation for the 2001-2002 school year and has steadily won awards since.  Debate Team Website

Debate News

The debate topic this year is “Resolved: Online Instruction enhances a College Education”.  We have attended three tournaments so far this semester and the team has done well:

Ball State University tournament:
Ann Leitensdorfer and Ryan Soluade won their division defeating University of Dayton in the Finals. Ann Leitensdorfer was named top speaker….Rebecca Baylor Placed 3rd (out of a field of 36). Cody Baker and Megan Moore were 3rd place team. SEMO tied for 2nd in sweepstakes finishing behind Clemson University.

Anderson University tournament, Fall '12: 
The team of Megan Moore and Cody Baker advanced to semi finals,  Megan Moore won an individual speaker award.

University of Dayton tournament, Fall '12:

5 of our 7 participants won awards.  Dylan Splean (debating alone) and the team of Ann Leitensdorfer and Ryan Soulade advanced to semi finals.  Megan Moore, Becca Baylor, and Dylan Splean won individual speaker awards.



University of Dayton tournament, Spring '13:

Cody Baker and Megan Moore placed 4th in the Varsity Corssfire.  Megan Moore placed 5th overall in the whole of the Varsity League.
