Scholarship Descriptions and Criteria

The Helen Bedford Memorial Scholarship (EB005)

Open to Art students. Applicants must submit 10 images of artwork on DVD/CD for review, a self-addressed stamped envelope (if return of DVD/CD is desired), and a one-page statement on their goals in art, interests, and plans for the future. Deadline is March 1. Based on financial need and artistic potential. For Incoming Freshmen or continuing students. Renewable with application.

The Art Faculty Scholarship (0001)

Open to students majoring in Art with financial need. Applicants must submit 10 images of artwork on DVD/CD for review, a self-addressed stamped envelope (if return of DVD/CD is desired), and a one-page statement on their goals in art, interests, and plans for the future. Deadline is March 1. For Incoming Freshmen or continuing students. Non-Renewable.

The Katherine Cochran Endowment Scholarship (EC016)

Open to freshmen Art students. Applicants must submit 10 images of artwork on DVD/CD for review, a self-addressed stamped envelope (if return of DVD/CD or slides is desired), and a one-page statement of his/her goals in art, interests and plans for the future. Deadline is March 1. For Incoming Freshmen; may re-apply subsequent years twice.

Randy Leiner Memorial Scholarship (EL021)

Awarded to a resident of Cape Girardeau County or Scott County who is an art or music major. Deadline is March 1. Must have overall GPA of 2.5. Renewable with application.

Jean A. Chapman Endowed Art Scholarship

Open to all Art students. Applicants must submit 10 images of artwork on DVD/CD for review, a self-addressed stamped envelope (if return of DVD/CD is desired), and a one-page statement on their goals in art, interests, and plans for the future. Deadline is March 1. Based on artistic potential. Must have overall GPA of 3.0. Renewable with application.

Dorothy Seabaugh Knehans Art Memorial (0006)

Open to students majoring in Art. Deadline is March 1.

VPA Scholarship

Available to incoming freshmen with a 21 ACT and 3.0 cumulative G.P.A. and to community college transfer students with 24 transferable hours and 3.0 cumulative G.P.A. Additional criteria include: declared major or minor in art, demonstrate artistic promise judged by the awarding department. Applicants must submit 10 images of artwork on DVD/CD for review, a self-addressed stamped envelope (if return of DVD/CD is desired), and a one-page statement of his/her goals in art, interests and plans for the future. Separate application form from the Department of Art is required. Deadline is March 1. Automatically renewable up to four years. Renewal criteria: 3.0 Southeast G.P.A., completion of 30 hours per academic year; and approval of academic department chairperson. Five awarded per year. Students receiving other SEMO scholarships are not eligible.

Earl & Margie Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts (EH028)

Awarded to a student pursuing degrees in Music, Art, Theatre and Dance.

DCF Scholarship (ED006)

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, a permanent resident of Missouri and a returning junior or senior majoring in Graphics, Commercial Art, or Art Education. Renewable with application.

John Boardman Memorial Endowment (EB012)

Applicant must be an Art or Pre-Architecture major with 30 hours overall credit and an overall GPA of 3.0.

Emmett E. & Gladys A. Duff Art Scholarship (ED028)

Applicant must be pursing a BS in Art Education, Sophomore or above. Must have overall GPA of 3.0. Renewable with application.

Martha Erlbacher Endowed Art Scholarship

Awarded to a resident of Cape Girardeau County or Scott County pursing a BS in Art Education, Sophomore or above. Must have overall GPA of 3.0. Applicants must submit 10 images of artwork on DVD/CD for review. Renewable with application.

Application Procedures

For ALL scholarships, complete the appropriate endowed scholarship application form and return to Student Financial Services.

Incoming Freshmen:

Complete the “Endowed and Sponsored Scholarship Application for Beginning Freshmen” form available at Student Financial Services.

Current and Transfer Students:

Complete the “Endowed and Sponsored Scholarship Application for Continuing, Graduate, and Transfer Students” form available at Student Financial Services. Admitted Southeast Students should apply online.

Steps to Apply for an Endowed Scholarship:

  1. Login to your Student Portal (http:/portal.semo.edu)
  2. Select Students Tab
  3. Select "Click Here to open My Southeast Self-Service"
  4. Click on the link to access your Self-Service page
  5. Select "Southeast Student Processes "
  6. Select "Apply for an Endowed Scholarship"
  7. For VPA Scholarships, ALSO complete the VPA Scholarship Application from the Department of Art. Return completed form to the Department of Art.

When required under the scholarship criteria listed above, send 10 images of your artwork on DVD/CD, SASE for return of materials, if desired, and a one-page statement of his/her goals in art, interests and plans for the future directly to the Department of Art. One packet is sufficient even if multiple scholarships are applied for.
