The Earl and Margie Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts at Southeast is comprised of the Departments of Art, Music and Theatre & Dance. River Campus provides a unique opportunity for artists of all talents to spend time and work together on a daily basis. The campus is comprised of and includes state of the art classrooms, studios and performance spaces. In addition, students reside in dorms which include wireless internet, work out facilities and cafeteria in addition to computer labs and the Arts Resource Center all on site. Studies include programs leading to either a professional degree or a liberal arts degree. Plan you trip to find out more about all Southeast Missouri State has to offer!

NEXT at the River Campus

The Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts is also committed to the community. Free concerts are offered throughout the year and students of all ages are engaged in learning and celebrating the arts. Whether it’s viewing exhibits in the Crisp Museum, interacting in Family Days, participating in youth workshops, summer academies or just coming for the fun at the Summer Festival. Add to this the collaborative efforts of our academic departments and touring performances and you just can never tell what we’ll do next!

Fall Youth Workshops

The next Musical Theatre Experience workshops will be offered by The Holland School of Visual & Performing Arts in September. Keep watching for registration information in the coming weeks.

Pocahontas

Just around the river bend we will be offering children interested in musical theatre the opportunity to study singing, dancing and acting using the story of Pocahontas, at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.

The Children’s Theatre Workshop is for students in grades K-4th, and children of all levels of experience are encouraged to attend. In each class, students will be able to participate in theatre exercises and scene work with a final performance for friends and family at 11 am on November 7th.

The classes will run Saturday Mornings on September 26-November 7th from 9 a.m. to noon. We will not have class October 17th due to Southeast Missouri State Homecoming. Classes will be held in Room 114 of the beautiful Dobbins Center of the River Campus. The student fee is $150. Snacks will be provided.

Acting Improv

Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus is offering pre-teen and young teens workshops for those interested in theatre acting. This class introduces students to the tool of improvisation. Through exercises and games, students will learn the basic skills of improv and have fun developing their spontaneity, playfulness, imagination, and confidence. Improv is an essential skill for any actor, and it’s a useful one for life, as well.

This HSVPA Workshop is for students in grades 5th -8th grade, and children of all levels of experience are encouraged to attend. In each class, students will participate in theatre games, exercises and learning scenes, with a final performance for friends and family at 3 pm on November 7th.

The classes will run Saturday afternoons on September 26-November 7th from 1 pm to 4 pm. We will not have class October 17th due to Southeast Missouri State Homecoming. Classes will be held in Room 114 of the beautiful Dobbins Center of the River Campus. The student fee is $150. Snacks will be provided.
