Southeast’s Kent Library is located across the street from Academic Hall on Normal Street. A classic example of New Formalist style architecture, the library houses a rich collection of print, multimedia and archival materials.  Online subscription databases deliver instant access from any Internet connection to the full text of more than 6,600 magazines and scholarly journals.  MOBIUS, a comprehensive network of Missouri collegiate libraries, provides users with access to more than 17 million books.

Circulation Policies

Information Services and Research Help Desk

Kent Library provides research assistance at the Research Help Desk by phone, e-mail, chat, or text. Individualized research assistance is available by consultation; call the Research Help Desk to schedule an appointment. The Research Help Desk is located on the third floor of Kent Library and can be reached by phone at 573-651-2230.

Instructional Materials Center (IMC)

The Instructional Materials Center (IMC) houses items commonly found in a school media center as well as educational instruction materials.  Here, you can also find the Library’s collection of DVDs and video games along with digital projectors and video cameras for check out.  The Instructional Materials Center is located on the third floor and can be reached by phone at 573-651-2234.

Heather MacDonald Greene Multimedia Center

The Heather MacDonald Greene Multimedia Center (HMGMC) can help with any digital project you may have. The HMGMC provides personalized instruction for a full range of audio, video, design, 3D rendering, graphic and animation software for PC, Mac and iOS devices. Our combination of one-on-one software coaching, stimulating events and innovative workshops provide countless opportunities to showcase and improve patrons' digital skills. the Heather MacDonald Greene Multimedia Center is located on the third floor and can be reached by phone at 573-651-4978.

Special Collections and Archives

Special Collections and Archives acquires, preserves and makes accessible research materials that document the historical, literary and cultural experience of Southeast Missouri, the Mississippi River Valley region and the history of Southeast Missouri State University. Government Documents

Kent Library was designated as a Federal Depository in 1916, and a Missouri State Documents Depository in 1977.  The collection includes a large number of historically significant materials inherited from St. Vincent’s Seminary, which had been the Federal Depository for this congressional district prior to 1916.  The Federal Depository serves to provide resources to meet federal information needs.  The Government Documents office is located on the fourth floor and can be reached at 573-651-2754.

The Center for Faulkner Studies and the Brodsky Collection

The Brodsky Collection, obtained by the University in 1989 and housed in the Rare Book Room of Kent Library, is one of the largest collections of William Faulkner materials in the world. It contains more than 10,000 items, including signed first editions, letters, photographs, film scripts, manuscripts, and the Blotner Papers. The Center for Faulkner Studies is also the repository for the collection of Faulkner materials assembled by Jane Isbell Haynes, a Faulkner scholar and collector. The Center for Faulkner Studies is directed by Dr. Christopher Rieger and its mission is to promote the research and teaching of Faulkner’s life and works. The Center publishes the Teaching Faulkner newsletter, an internationally distributed publication focused on Faulkner in the secondary and college classroom, and hosts a biannual international “Faulkner and” conference.
