Resources for Students
What you need to know prior to applying for graduation
- Check important deadlines by clicking here.
- Meet with your advisor to review your Degree Works audit for unmet requirements.
- Verify your permanent and local addresses, with corresponding phone numbers, via the
portal, and update if necessary. Most graduation-related information will be distributed
via your Southeast e-mail address, but we need current information on your location
as a back-up.
- Enroll for all courses for the semester in which you plan to graduate. Undergraduates should include WP003, MAPP2, and CL'S. Graduate students should include
comprehensive or oral exams and GR609.
- If completing a requirement by transfer credit, you must enroll in coursework at the
other institution and provide proof of enrollment. Proof of enrollment requires a schedule or receipt from the transfer institution that
includes course number, credit hours, title, school name, your name, and ID number,
and must be provided by the transfer school (no e-mail forwards). This information
must be received for in-progress courses before you can be approved as a candidate
for graduation. All transfer credit coursework must be completed successfully and submitted for evaluation
via official transcript. After completion of the course(s), have your transcript sent to:

Registrar's Office MS 3760 ATTN: Graduation
One University Plaza
Cape Girardeau, MO 63701
- Students with summer enrollment: Enroll for your summer courses. Then, apply for summer graduation. Because there
is no summer commencement exercise, candidates completing requirements in summer may be eligible to participate in the preceding spring ceremony if they submit an application
prior to the end of the first week of summer priority enrollment. Please mark the
commencement participation option accordingly during the application process to be
certain your name will be included in the appropriate commencement program. The choice of commencement ceremony is available only to summer graduates.
- Run an updated Degree Works audit after enrollment to see what might still be missing.
If the department is substituting or waiving a requirement related to your degree
program, have the completed, approved substitution form sent to the Registrar's Office,
Attention Graduation, from the department chair.
You are now ready to apply for graduation. Please submit your application by the deadlines
indicated HERE. During peak periods, such as the month before the end of the semester, you may
need to allow several weeks for your application to be entered. NOTE: If you are
completing a major or minor only, there will be no fee for completion, and you will
not receive a diploma.
After reaching the portal, navigate to Students SS tab > Services > Apply to Graduate.Apply for Graduation from the Portal
