  • ‘Symphony Sampler’ Offers Preview to Upcoming Season

    VP-Music-SESOCAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Sept. 11, 2014 — On Sunday, Sept. 21, the Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra will present its annual “Symphony Sampler” concerts as a light-hearted preview to the upcoming 2014-2015 symphony season.

    The symphony will perform two short concerts, starting at 2 p.m. and repeating again at 3 p.m. in the Robert F. and Gertrude L. Shuck Music Recital Hall at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.

    The concerts will introduce the music the symphony orchestra will perform this year. These short concerts also will provide a brief introduction to the instruments of the orchestra. Drawings for free tickets to the upcoming concerts will be held, and patrons will have the opportunity to purchase individual or season tickets to the symphony series. The “Symphony Sampler” concerts are free and open to the public....

  • CNN’s Anderson Cooper Presenting ‘A 360° Look at World Events’

    cooper_anderson2CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Sept. 11, 2014 – CNN’s Anderson Cooper will present “A 360° Look at World Events” as part of Southeast Missouri State University’s 2014-2015 Speakers Series at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, in the Show Me Center.

    His presentation is a featured Family Weekend event.

    Tickets are required for entry. General admission tickets are $10 and can be purchased at www.showmecenter.biz and the Show Me Center Box Office. Current Southeast faculty, staff and students can use a valid Redhawks ID to pick up a free ticket in the University Center Room 204 or the Show Me Center Box Office....

  • River Campus Open House Planned on Family Weekend

    LOC-RiverCampusCAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Sept. 11, 2014 – The River Campus at Southeast Missouri State University welcomes the regional community to an open house on Saturday, Sept. 20, during Family Weekend.

    The open house is planned for 1-3 p.m. Students, families and community members are invited. Residence hall rooms as well as academic studio spaces in the new River Campus Center will be open with tour guides available. The seminary and Cultural Arts Center at the River Campus also will be open. Demonstrations will take place in the directing studio, dance studios and Wendy Kurka Rust Flexible Theatre....

  • Department of Art Awarded NEA Grant to Expand Art Outreach

    CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Sept. 10, 2014 – The National Endowment for the Arts has awarded $10,000 to the Department of Art at Southeast Missouri State University to expand its art outreach program.

    Art Reach, Bridging the Arts across Cape (ARBAC) is a major expansion beginning this fall of the Art Reach program, a volunteer effort for underserved youth attending the Bridge Outreach Center. The program began as a partnership between the University and the Southeast Missouri Arts Council. Murielle Gaither, Arts Council Director, experienced an Art Reach program at Vanderbilt University and sought to implement one in Cape Girardeau....

  • Southeast Missouri State University President Ken Dobbins Announces Retirement

    ADM-PresidentCAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Sept. 8, 2014 –- After more than 15 years as president of Southeast Missouri State University, Dr. Kenneth W. Dobbins announced at the annual State of the University address today that he plans to retire at the end of the 2014-15 academic year.

    Dobbins said he will retire effective June 30, 2015, with plans to do some higher education consulting for the American Association of State Colleges and University’s Penson Center for Professional Development. He said he felt the time is right for his wife, Jeanine, and him to spend more time with family and other endeavors....
